On March 5, 2016 Van Isle Brazilian Jiujitsu celebrated our third year anniversary. The amazing day started with a fantastic three hour seminar presented by Marc Marins of North Van BJJ. Marc Has over 20 years of Brazilian Jiujitsu experience and was part of the first wave of BJJ that swept across Canada. It was a great seminar full of timeless, beautiful jiujitsu. The event started with grip breaking exercises and moved into Marc's philosophy of how train defensively as a means of building a fortress from which to launch attacks. The seminar then moved to sequences of defenses to common and troubling situations. Our upper ranked students as well as our new students thoroughly enjoyed the content and the delivery, as Marc has a great way of uploading information to his students. It was great to see the mats full of students taking in as much knowledge as possible from one of western Canada's best instructors.
Since we were celebrating our community that has allowed us to flourish, we decided that the seminar would be a for-charity event, and we asked only for a non-perishable food item donation for the entry fee. The academy really came together raising a small mountain of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Mustard Seed food bank. This just goes to show what amazing people we share the mats with! Thank-you guys!
After the seminar the team regrouped at Lido waterfront restaurant for the Van Isle Third Year Anniversary Party. There was food, good people and drinks. It was awesome to see the team come together and celebrate our combined hard work, discipline, dedication and passion for Jiujitsu. The party was a real affirmation of the amazing team and culture we share at Van Isle. Thank you to every one of our members for making this team what it is! We are very excited for the future, as we know it will full of good jiu jitsu and even better people! We had awards to recognize the outstanding qualities of a few of our students.
Thank-you all for your support, we're looking forward to another great year!
